Friday, July 22, 2005 Picture Post Welling 1 Charlton 1Bournemouth 2 Charlton 5Torquay United 1 Charlton 5 I have neglected the blog this week as I have been busy changing a number of things around the house. But I really should make some mention of Charlton's away wins in friendlies at, respectively, Bournemouth, last Saturday, and Torquay, on Tuesday evening. The new signings (well most of them) were much in evidence in these victories, which went some way to relieving the feelings of apprehension brought on by the result of the first friendly, last Thursday night (14th), at non-league neighbours Welling, where the score was 1-1, and where Charlton were reckoned to be lucky at that. A far cry from the same fixture one season earlier, which Charlton won 8-0.Darren Ambrose is the guy apparently having his pulse taken by Alan Curbishley in the picture. At least I hope there is a picture, as this is my first try at the new system. Darren was signed from Newcastle a couple of weeks back, and scored one of the goals at Bournemouth.Tomorrow afternoon, the sequence of friendlies continues, when Charlton go to Brentford. The week has seen, at Bournemouth, Charlton's first win since 16 March, when the double over Tottenham was completed, and at Torquay, Charlton's first penalty (converted by want-away Jason Euell) for over a year. Yes, Charlton went through the entire 2004-05 season without being awarded a single penalty, though what this signifies is difficult to tell. posted by Jonathan Blake @ 18:13 0 comments 0 Comments: Post a Comment << Home Reference Links Frankie Valley All Quiet in the East Stand (Inspector Sands) Addicks Championship Diary (Wyn Grant) New York Addick Livescore Charlton Athletic FC Latest Posts The Last Quiz of Summer Selective Memory Bedspreads and Counter Pains Depleted and Defeated A Charismatic Quizmaster Close Season? The production and layout were all done by non-English speakers, and that meant that all the writing had to be done by me. My own name appeared as editor and also over what I regarded as the best piece of the month. "Jonathan Blake" (the first name and surname of two acquaintances from university) was the name I made up (I thought then, and still do, that it has a nice ring to it) for second-best pieces and general features. It's nice to be able to resurrect Jonathan after all this time to help me out with the writing.... View my complete profile
